The Capitol R/C Model Boat Club is a none profit organization based in the Washington DC area. The club was created to support and promote the hobby of radio control powered model boats. The club includes members from a wide variety of professional backgrounds and age ranges. The Capitol R/C Model Boat Club was initially formed back in the late1950's. The club became an official sanctioned club under the North American Model Boaters Association (NAMBA) in 1964 and also with the International Model Boaters Association (IMPBA) shortly thereafter. The Capitol R/Cer's originally ran in Washington D.C. at the reflecting pool. As the size and speeds of the model boats began to increase it became apparent that the reflecting pool was too small. In mid 1967 the club relocated to a small lake in Maryland known as Greenbelt Lake. This site was used for a number of years until the club relocated to the lake area beside the Pentagon in Washington D.C. This site was a bit larger and fit the needs of the growing R/C club. The club remained at that location until 1979 when the former club members Chuck Wormley and Joe Jackson found a new location at Vulcan Lake in Springfield, Virginia. The club  enjoyed this location for many years and hosted National level events there (the 1991 NAMBA Nationals & the 2000 IMPBA Scale Unlimited Masters) as well as our regular annual District level events. In October 2002, access to Vulcan Lake was no longer possible when the parking lot adjacent to the lake was leased and fenced off. Today our club pond is located at the Upper Occoquan Service Authority's water polishing pond in Centreville, Va where we continue to run boats for fun and host an annual District 12 race.
